The Springfield Lasers are a World TeamTennis
(WTT) Pro League franchise. The franchise was purchased and donated
to the City of Springfield, Missouri in 1996 by The Cooper Family.
Operations
are managed through the Springfield-Greene County Park Board,
1923 N. Weller, Springfield, MO 65803. Team colors are purple
and teal. Team hotel is the Clarion Hotel, 3333 S. Glenstone,
Springfield, MO 65804.
In the summer of 1996 the team played its first match in the
beautiful 2,500 seat stadium at Cooper Tennis Complex, 2331
E. Pythian, Springfield, MO 65802. The stadium has a professional
size (extra room behind the baseline) Hard-Nova court.
Cooper
Tennis Complex was named Tennis
Industry's Champions of Tennis 2002 Municipal Facility of the
Year by Tennis Industry Magazine. In additon to being the "Home
of the Lasers", the complex has hosted Fed Cup play, ATP and WTA professional tournaments, NCAA
II National Championships, National 12 and under Championships,
Missouri High School Champions, and numerous USTA programs.
In the past ten years, some of the
best players and greatest names in the game have displayed
their skills in WTT Pro League competition at the Cooper Tennis
Complex: Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport,
Larisa Neiland, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Anastasia Myskina,
Andy Roddick, Rick Leach, Gi Gi Fernandez, Patrick McEnroe, and Zina Garrison.
The Springfield Lasers finished the 2005
season with a 8-6 record. The franchise looks forward to the
2006 season with lots more world-class, competitive and family
entertaining World TeamTennis played on centre court! |
